We are proud of the causes we support. One of the campaigns we have the pleasure to feature is #ITSNOTOK, a movement against gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF).
Gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) has been a scourge on our society for a long time – made that much more critical during this time of global pandemic. The #ITSNOTOK movement aims to create more awareness, influence policy change, and affect change in society.
#ITSNOTOK is a social mobilization movement that grew out of South Africa and is now targeting the whole African continent, asking everyone to join forces and fight GBVF not only in society but also in the workplace.
#ITSNOTOK focuses on the difference everyone can make in their own community, organization or industry sector, and aims to activate both citizens and organizations, demonstrating the power of the collective to truly move the dial on this crisis.
Lack of gender parity is another layer in this fight and is particularly important in the private sector perspective as empowering women in the workplace will have long-reaching effect into other aspects of their lives, including in addressing GBVF.
Through gender parity and ensuring an equally empowered workforce, organizations are also able to tackle GBVF. Even more so, when an organization purposefully addresses victimization not only in the workplace but in society at large.
Through the #ITSNOTOK movement, the Shared Value Africa Initiative (SVAI) continues to curate engagement platforms, campaigns and partnerships in order to conscientize and challenge our society to fight GBVF. It is particularly important to focus on business’ potential impact, as a collective, to actively find solutions for the workplace; reflect on the inhibitors that need to be overcome to fast-track this fight. From policies to advocacy and action, the onus is on all of us to stop being bystanders.
The #ITSNOTOK movement is not date specific and belongs to everyone prepared to step up and lead. You too can get involved to raise awareness, act, mobilize and galvanize for much-needed change in our society.
We need your support.
How you choose to participate is up to you. It could be as simple as leveraging your resources, platforms, people and networks to support #ITSNOTOK. Keep the conversation and action going, so we can build the movement as a collective and motivate for change.
